Disaster Relief Trip this December

Samaritan's Purse Disaster Relief in North Carolina
Date: December 8th, 2024
Time: TBD
Location: Watauga County, NC (near Boone, NC)

We have an upcoming opportunity to serve with Samaritan's Purse in Watauga County, NC (near Boone, NC) as a part of the Hurricane Helene disaster response starting as early as December 8th. We are looking to form a team of up to 15 members for our initial trip and may offer additional opportunities for individuals to serve in the coming months. This opportunity is for adults 18 and older.

Watauga County was hard hit by Hurricane Helene and has a variety of ways in which teams can serve. Volunteers will assist homeowners affected by Hurricane Helene and will help in Jesus' Name with tree work, debris cleanup, roof tarping, and mud outs. There will also be opportunities for overnight and day volunteers. No skills are necessary prior to serving—volunteers will be led and instructed by an experienced team.

Team members will volunteer to go to disaster areas for flood and debris clean-up, tarping, and construction; however, not all volunteers will need to go out to the disaster sites. There are plenty of other opportunities to serve, such as assisting with meal preparation, setting up and tearing down sleeping areas, helping with paperwork for incoming/outgoing teams, organizing supplies, and cleaning the facility where teams will be staying.

Volunteers will be organized into teams on a daily basis and will carpool to the site in personal vehicles. The C3 team will be staying at the Alliance Bible Fellowship Church in Boone, NC, with meals and sleeping accommodations provided by the host church. Volunteers will be sleeping in the church sanctuary, and you will likely need to bring a cot or air mattress, bedding, personal hygiene items, towels, and washcloths. We will provide a complete packing list as we get closer to the date of our departure.

You will be responsible for purchasing meals on travel days and contributing toward fuel expenses for travel.
